I did it. I went teal, guys! And it’s the real star in this Colorful Laundry Room Makeover.
Did you happen to see my Cream & Grey Laundry Room reveal a couple of months ago? It was pretty and I was so excited that I had finally finished a room that I have already changed 3 times. Well…I did it again. But this time it’s really finished, guys. I promise. 😉 It’s just perfect now. I couldn’t imagine changing it. What do you think about this colorful laundry room makeover???
Adding a pop of color gives Farmhouse Style a fun modern update. I’m a big fan of mixing color and wood elements in rooms that still feel light and inviting. So, I’m slowly moving through each room in my house freshening things up with fun DIY projects and pretty, but affordable decor. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to see the latest updates.
Right now, I’m in the middle of a Master Bedroom Makeover that started with new paint and DIY ceiling wainscoting. You can see our finished Master Bathroom Makeover here. I’m in love with the dark blue cabinets and marble in there.
But let’s get on to this Colorful Laundry Room Makeover!

The Before Photos
First, a quick look at how this Laundry Room looked when we moved in 6 years ago. I really struggled with the design in this room.
Colorful Laundry Room Makeover – The Teal Reveal
You can see the easy DIY’s for that ‘house and stables’ handmade sign, cute wood slice bird hook, the simple wood storage bins, and the DIY Mudroom Bench in previous posts. I’ve also got the DIY steps and printable plans for that Laundry Table over the Washer/Dryer.
The top cabinet on the left is so convenient for keeping my purse and the hubby’s laptop bag away from little hands. 😉 The long lower cabinet has a rod for extra coat storage. I just shared the DIY for those pretty stained plywood panels inside the cabinets. It’s a great way to give ugly open cabinets a finished and stylish look.
I’ll be adding more shoe storage to that cabinet this week, stay tuned. (UPDATE: You can see the finished DIY shoe storage in that cabinet here) The DIY Mudroom Bench used to be a standard base cabinet that I cut in half.
The storage cabinet above it was also cut in half to turn both cabinets into a DIY hall tree style mudroom inside our Laundry Room. Life is so much easier when you have shoe storage next to the door you use as your main entry, right!
This area looks so much cuter when tiny coats are hanging from it. 😉 The baskets on the top shelf are hiding all of our winter hats, scarves, and gloves. I use decorative baskets and trays to add texture and extra storage all around the house.
I added the pop of teal to the back of the cabinet to carry the color across the room. You can see that little Vintage Camper as the centerpiece in a succulent garden I made last year. It was super cute, but I have a habit of slowly killing plants. Oops! Those metal orbs are great for bookcases, tabletops, and shelves.
After this Colorful Laundry Room Makeover the whole room feels so much bigger with light cabinets on the top. In fact, I painted the upper cabinets the same color as the wall. It’s Behr’s Sandstone Cove. Matching the cabinets and the walls might not always work, but in this case it keeps everything light and airy.
The lower cabinets are Magnolia Homes by Kilz color Spontaneous. This line is hard to find, but the paint quality is amazing. And many of the shades were hand picked by JoAnna Gaines. So, it’s easy to find a good color. You can use the zip code search on the Kilz website to find a dealer near you. I do mix my latex paints into a DIY Chalk Paint when I paint cabinets. It just dries faster and makes the job easier. 🙂 Check out the DIY Build Plans for that Laundry Table in another post.
A table over the washer dryer is so stinking awesome, guys! It hides those ugly gaps behind the machines, adds style to the room, and gives you a great place to fold. We use this tray as a place to store our keys, mail, and hand towels. The 2 candle holders on the window ledge are from the recent DIY for updating old decor with 2-step rust paint. Cute, right?!
I mean, c’mon! That teal is a thing of beauty. It just makes my heart happy and steals the show in this Colorful Laundry Room Makeover.
Right now, I’m loving decor with natural elements. Wood, metal, and plants are high on the list. That teak vase is one of my favorite pieces of decor in the house. It’s really lovely!
I love the look of that stained Maple top on the DIY Laundry Table with that Teak wood vase on the counter. So pretty. On the right, you can see the easy DIY Wall Hook I made to hold all of our pool towels and swimsuits.
That door behind it leads to the Colorful Powder Room Makeover I recently shared with that beautiful Anthropologie Wallpaper.
Cue the awkward photo. 😉 I rarely have pictures of myself. But needed this one as a test shot for my Better Homes and Gardens feature (YAY!). So, I thought I might as well share it here. Don’t worry, in real life my hands are a lot less blurry. 🙂
